UFC 211 Recap and Results
Billed as the biggest card of the year, UFC 211 was stacked full of top tier MMA bouts with an especially stacked main card.
Both champions, Miocic and Jedrzejczyk, showed why they are both top of each of their respective divisions. Miocic displayed how much he had improved since his 2014 loss to JDS with a round one TKO finish, while Jedrzejczyk put on a technical striking clinic against heavy-handed and game Andrade.
Along with the title fights at the top of the card, there were many integrating bouts between top contenders who were knocking on the door to title shots. Maia just got past Masvidal with a split decision victory where it was a real grappler versus striker match-up, as expected. Frankie Edgar derailed the Yair Rodriguez hype train. Edgar took down Rodriguez and punished him with heavy elbows and ground and pound, resulting in a TKO win via doctor stoppage after Rodriguez' eye closed shut at the end of round two. A war between Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier was cut short after illegal knees landed on a downed Poirier by Alvarez. Poirier rocked Alvarez multiple times but Alvarez had a heavy rally before landing the illegal knees, resulting in the fight being deemed a no contest.
Congratulations to Rylo707 for winning and achieving this event's highest score with only a 1 point gap! Maybe next time MarkManders! Make sure to make your predictions for the Bellator card next Friday in London, where Rory McDonald makes his promotional debut against Paul Daley.
